The Moravians traveled to Philadelphia in Whitefield’s sloop, The Savannah, in search of a fresh location for their missionary endeavors.
Moravians, whom George Whitefield engaged to build a school, were the first people to settle in the area. These Moravians were the first people to set foot on the continent of North America. They traveled north with George Whitfield to the Barony of Nazareth, 5,000 acres of property he owned in Pennsylvania, where they arrived on May 30, 1740.
Due to philosophical disputes, their partnership ended quickly. On 2 April 1741, they bought 500 acres from William Allen and founded Bethlehem. The Barony purchase discussions were launched by the Moravian leaders in England. After that, when Whitefield collapsedin hard times, the wealthy Moravians purchased the entire plot of land from him; on July 16, 1741, it became formally Moravian property.
